Wise Rebuke

Posted: April 18, 2013 in Uncategorized

“‘You shall surely rebuke… but do not bear sin upon him’ (Leviticus 19:17) — meaning, say to him, ‘You are a good man, so why would you do such?’ as it says, ‘Rebuke not a scoffer lest he hate you’ (Proverbs 9:8). Rather, rebuke him [by saying] that he is wise. Then he will love you and hearken to your words.”

-Yeshayah ha-Levi Horowitz, Sheney Luchoth ha-Berith, Torah she-biKhthav, Kedoshim
