Devoid of the Divine

“This is the meaning of ‘Chilul HaShem’ (‘desecrating God’s name’)… It derives from the word ‘chalal,’ meaning ’empty space’… for one shows that it is as though the place where one stands is ’empty,’ devoid of God’s presence, and therefore one is not concerned about transgressing His commandments.”
